The Stroke Exercise Program was established to help stroke survivors maintain their functional abilities once physical and occupational therapy is completed.
Participants must come to each session with a caregiver and be medically stable and no longer active with physical or occupational therapy programs.
A physician referral is necessary to participate in the program.
Activities include:
- Exercise to strengthen arms, legs and trunk
- Exercise for walking and balance
- Aerobic exercises
- Speech and cognitive activities
Program goals:
- Maintenance of functional abilities
- Improved cardiovascular conditioning
- Community re-integration
- Adjustment to disability
