Pediatric Department
A hospital stay can be scary and intimidating for anyone, particularly for a child. That’s why the professional staff in Lakewood Hospital’s Pediatric Department works with parents to create a kid-friendly environment providing expert family-centered care.
Family-Centered Care
The Lakewood Hospital Pediatric Department is an inpatient and outpatient unit for hospitalized infants, children and adolescents through the age of 21. The goal of the department is to provide children and adolescents with highest quality, family-centered care. We believe that family is the foundation of a child's life and by working together, families and health care providers can ensure that the needs of the child are met. Children feel more comfortable and secure when a family member is part of their care team. We encourage the family to take an active role in the care of their child according to their comfort level. One parent/guardian is able to stay with the child during procedures and with the child in their room overnight.
Specially Trained Staff
The staff of the Pediatric Department has been providing pediatric nursing excellence for nearly 300 years combined. The unit is also staffed by highly skilled pediatric attending physicians as well as a pediatric house officer 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), the staff has gone through specialized training to care for children ages newborn to 21 years. They provide expert care for a wide variety of childhood illnesses including asthma, pneumonia and brochiolitis as well as surgical interventions such as tonsil and adenoidectomy, tympanic ear tubes, appendectomy and more.
