Our Philosophy of Care
At Lakewood Hospital’s Birthing Center, our goal is to ensure your entire stay is as comfortable as possible. You will experience family-centered mother/baby care delivered by professional nurses dedicated to providing the best care possible.
Kangaroo Care
We support Kangaroo Care, which is a method of holding a baby that involves skin-to-skin contact. The baby, who is naked except for a diaper and a piece of cloth covering his or her back (either a receiving blanket or the parent's clothing), is placed in an upright position against a parent's bare chest. This snuggling of the infant inside the pouch of their parent's shirt, much like a kangaroo's pouch, led to the creation of the term "kangaroo care." Learn more about the benefits of Kangaroo Care.
Your Private Birthing Room
The Birthing Center offers eight beautiful, private birthing rooms that accommodate a family member overnight. We also offer a water-birth tub for mothers who choose this delivery option. Additionally, we offer a fully equipped nursery to care for your newborn.
We want to ensure that you and your baby feel as comfortable and secure as possible during your stay. For this reason, the Center is equipped with a top-quality security system that provides safety for you and your family.
Medical Care You Deserve
When it comes to delivering your baby, it is high quality, personalized medical care that you want and deserve. Whether you have chosen a physician or a midwife to deliver your baby, the Birthing Center is staffed 24-hours a day by board-certified obstetric physicians, nationally certified and state licensed nurse-midwives, and highly trained registered nurses.
In the unlikely event that a problem should arise during your delivery, the Center is able to provide the level of care necessary to handle any emergency.
Follow-up Care for Teenagers or First-Time Mothers
If you are a teenager or first-time mom, we offer additional support to help you after the delivery of your baby. Two or three days after baby arrives, a professional nurse will make a home visit to assist both mother and baby. Feel free to return to the Center if you would like to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with our staff.
Touring the Birthing Center
Tours of the Birthing Center are offered the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required, please call 440.356.0347.
Childbirth Education
To feel more comfortable about your childbirth experience, we encourage you to be as educated as possible before and after your delivery.
