Safety First!
At Lakewood Hospital, providing high-quality care the first time, all the time, is our highest priority. Patient safety is an integral component of our philosophy, and patients and their families can trust us to incorporate these strategies into the every day workings of our organization.
Lakewood Hospital has a strong commitment to the safety of our patients, staff and visitors. Therefore, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the following information:
Patient Identification
Before giving a medication, treatment or a test, staff will verify your identity by asking you two patient identifiers, such as your name and birth date.
Medications in the Hospital
Nurses, doctors and pharmacists are trained to help you take medications safely. You share in the responsibility. Make sure you know your medications and why you take take them. If there is any medication that is unfamiliar or you do not understand the medications you are given, ask your nurse or physician.
Medications from Home
Patients are encouraged to send all medications home. Your physician will prescribe medications and they are dispensed through the hospital pharmacy.
Employee Identification Badges
All Lakewood Hospital employees and volunteers are required to wear a photo identification badge.
Fire Drills
For your protection, Lakewood Hospital regularly conducts fire drills. If a drill occurs while you are a patient, please stay in your room and remain calm.
No Smoking Policy
There is no smoking permitted in Lakewood Hospital or on the hospital campus. If you would like information on our smoking cessation classes, please ask your nurse or call extension 8093. The respiratory therapist will be able to provide you with a schedule of upcoming sessions.

Retaining your personal belongings will be done at your own risk. If you must keep items of value, they should be deposited into the hospital safe. Please ask your nurse if you require this service. For items such as clothing, a closet is available in each patient room. Please check your room when you are discharged to be sure you take all personal belongings home with you.
