Frequently Asked Questions

Lakewood Hospital’s Vision for Tomorrow plan focuses on improving the patient experience, establishing Centers of Excellence and enhancing the management of chronic diseases.

Q: What is Vision for Tomorrow?

A: This is Lakewood Hospital’s multi-year plan to better meet the health care needs of its communities. It will ensure the highest level of care for patients and position the hospital for long-term growth.

Q: What are the key components of the plan?

A: Specific plan highlights include:

  • Focusing on four Centers of Excellence: Orthopaedics, Geriatrics, Neurological and Diabetes/Endocrine Cervices
  • Enhancing rehabilitation services, including an Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit expansion
  • Expanding outpatient care
  • Converting the hospital to all private rooms
  • Partnering with community organizations to maximize wellness offerings
  • Strengthening the management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes
  • Aligning Cleveland Clinic services and community physicians with Lakewood Hospital

Q: How will the hospital change?

A: The plan encompasses a variety of changes to Lakewood Hospital that will place greater emphasis on improving the patient experience, establishing Centers of Excellence and enhancing the management of chronic disease.

Q: How did you come to the decision to focus on the Centers of Excellence you selected?

A: Lakewood Hospital conducted in-depth research to better understand the changing demographics of our communities and their current and future needs. We were very strategic in developing our Vision for Tomorrow, ensuring that our services will best meet the health needs of the community while positioning the hospital for growth.

Q: Why was the decision made to go to all private rooms?

A: Today, patients prefer to have private rooms. Our hospital was built during a time when semi-private rooms were “the norm.” We want to ensure our patients have what they want and need when they are in our care and this is one more way we can do everything possible for our patients.

Q: How many private patient rooms will Lakewood Hospital have when the plan is complete?

A: We will have about 200 private rooms when the project is complete. By transitioning to all private rooms, we won’t decrease the number of patients we can care for, however it will enhance their experience while they are here.

Q: Will patients have to pay more for a private room?

A: No, patients will not pay more for private rooms at Lakewood Hospital.

Q: When will these changes take place?

A: Our Vision for Tomorrow plan will take place in phases over several years. Read our 2009 Accomplishments.

Additional phases, which are currently in the planning stages, will include new programming and further expansions.

Q: How much will this plan cost?

A: A significant investment will support the Vision for Tomorrow plan and represents one of the largest investments in Lakewood Hospital’s history. In addition, Lakewood Hospital is extremely grateful to both the Lakewood Hospital Foundation for its gift in the amount of $5 million and to the Lakewood Hospital Medical Staff for its generosity in the amount of $500,000 to help make this plan a reality.
