Nursing Departments

SeniorCare

SeniorCare's nursing team provides care at graduated levels of service to manage chronic disease and support healthy aging.  Our community outreach nurses practice in a variety of community-based settings to provide health screenings; health education; medication review/education; chronic disease education/monitoring; follow-up for high risk seniors discharged from the ED; and special event planning. The SeniorCare Assessment Team Nurses practice through an interdisciplinary team approach to assessing and managing the needs of frail at-risk seniors experiencing cognitive, emotional, and physical changes. They provide caregiver/family education and support and also conduct community-based health education programs. For more information, contact the manager of Senior Services at 216.227.2460.

 

Endoscopy

The Endoscopy suite hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Saturday. Our staff consists of nine RN's, all which have previous critical care experience and ACLS certification.  There is one nurse on-call weekdays for emergency cases.  Saturday has two nurses and both are on-call until Monday morning.  We have three procedure rooms, one of which is equipped specifically for our state-of-the-art Endoscopic Ultrasound.  This procedure combines ultrasound technology and specialized endoscopes to help identify and stage lesions of the GI tract, with attention to the liver and pancreas.  The average number of procedures a month is about 250.  These include EGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Bronchoscopy, TEE, EUS, and ERCP.  We see both inpatient, ambulatory, and an occasional ER patient. For more information, contact the manager of the Unit at 216.529.7220.

 

Coronary Care Unit

The CCU is an 11 bed unit with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.  We typically see patients with Acute MI’s, Acute CHF and Pulmonary Edema, Post Intervention patients, Cardioversions, Unstable Angina, Dysrhythmias, IABP, Ventilators, patients with pericardial effusions/tamponade, Cardiogenic shock, etc.  We schedule day/rotating or straight evening or night shifts.  Interested RN’s will need BLS, ACLS, EKG interpretation, and Hemodynamic monitoring. For more information, contact the manager of the Unit at 216.227.2421.


Emergency Department

The Emergency Room is a 30-bed level II trauma center.  We have 20 acute care beds with two trauma bays and eight Express Care beds.  The acute care and trauma beds are open to the public 24 hours a day and seven days a week.  The Express Care beds are used to treat minor injuries and illnesses from 11a.m. to 11 p.m.  We have an agreement with our Inpatient Pediatricians to aid us in caring for or pediatric cases.  Our staff is devised of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedics, Unit Secretaries, Nursing Assistants, Physician Assistants and Emergency Physicians.  We all work collaboratively to care for all members of the community.   Our ER prides itself in being the community’s front door to the hospital.  The staff strives to see all patients in a timely manner with a high regard to quality and caring.  Capabilities include: 18 cardiac monitoring rooms, three observation rooms, two OB/GYN rooms, two seclusion rooms, one orthopaedic room, eight express care rooms, two isolation rooms, two seclusion rooms, and one ear, nose & throat room. For more information, contact the manager of the Department at 216.529.7000.


Behavioral Health - Inpatient

The 32-bed inpatient unit consists of 21 general adult psychiatry beds and 11 special geropsychiatric beds. The program includes one-to-one counseling, social skill enhancement, self-care and coping skill development. Recreational and occupational therapists are available on the unit as well as nutritional consults with dieticians. Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The ICU is comprised of 11 beds.  Most of the patients are surgical with a few medical patients.  We are a level II trauma center, so there is also the occasional trauma patient.  The ICU is a semi-closed unit, meaning there are intensivists from the community and from the Cleveland Clinic that are consulted on every patient, although their primary care physician still sees the patient every day.  Education is a key element to being an intensive care nurse and we have three nurses who are resources for the unit. The resource nurses are experienced with the ability to precept as well as teach various classes. Acute Inpatient Rehab

Our inpatient acute rehab unit provides rehabilitation services and medical management for patients requiring intense rehabilitation for medical conditions such as stroke, bilateral total joint replacement, single joint replacements and hip fractures meeting specific criteria, amputations, brain injuries, nervous system disorders, and muscular disorders. Our team is comprised of doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, physical therapists, occupational and recreational therapists, case managers, socials workers and psychologists. Orthopaedics - 4E

Our orthopaedic unit cares for patients with total joint replacement hip/knee, fractures, laminectomies, etc. Other specialties include ENT (myringotomy, septoplasty, maxillofacial reconstruction), vascular (fem-pop bypass), general surgical (lap chole, colon resection), gynecology (TAH, A&P repair, TVT). Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

We care for adult cardiac patients with a variety of cardiac drips. Patients who have had an intervention in the cardiac cath lab are placed on PCU, as well as open heart patients the day after surgery. All beds are telemetry. A monitor tech is on staff to watch the monitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Paramedics are also on staff to assist with patient care, sheath removal and clerical support from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. six days a week.  For more information, contact the manager of the PCU at 216.227.2420


Medical Surgical - 1B

1B Oncology is a 33 bed unit.  Our patient population primarily consists of medical/surgical oncology patients.  We have an outpatient treatment room on the unit for chemotherapy, iron infusion, and injections.  We self schedule and are a closed unit for float purposes. For more information, contact the manager of the Med/Surg/Oncology Unit at 216.529.7004

 

Obstetrics

Our Birthing Center has 12 beds comprised of  eight Labor/Delivery/Recover/Postpartum and four antepartum/postOP rooms. Our goal is to exceed 800 deliveries for 2007.  Core staffing is 3 RNs. For more information, contact the manager of the Birthing Center at 216.529.7006.

 

Pediatrics

Our pediatric unit has 10 beds.  We also see pediatric patients with asthma, RSV, and GI problems. We also care for the outpatient Pediatric surgery patients. For more information, contact the manager of the Pediatric Unit at 216.529.7085.

 

Telemetry-3C

The telemetry unit has 32 beds. Our primary focus is telemetry (CHF, diabetes, COPD). We use a shared nursing (team approach).  Implementing CHF education is the focus for all staff.

Neuro-Integrated Care Unit

The Neuro Integrated Care Unit has nine beds. The patients vary in acuity.  The patient population consists of neurosurgical and neurological patients.  All beds are telemetry.  Paramedics are also on staff 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., six days a week.  The paramedics assist with patient care, sheath removal and clerical support. For more information, contact the manager of the Neuro Integrate Care Unit at 216.529.7750.

 

Surgery

We have 10 Operating rooms and treat all surgical services including neurosurgery. We have a cumulative amount of 400+ years of experience among the OR team.  

 

Skilled Nursing Unit

We are a 39 bed unit.  Our patient population includes adult patients requiring skilled care that includes IV’s, therapy, wound care, teaching or further monitoring.  We do not float to other units.  Team Centered Nursing.  We are a family focused unit that values/respects the need for flexible schedules. Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

There are 11 beds in PACU.  We recover patients from infants through adults.  We use a modified collaboration type of delivery of care.  Our interdisciplinary team consists of nurses, anesthesia providers, surgeons, and health care assistants. The nursing staff does not float to other units.
