About Us

Lakewood Hospital, located on the southeast corner of Belle and Detroit Avenue, is an acute care hospital that has served the diverse healthcare needs of the Westshore communities since 1907. Lakewood Hospital celebrated its’ 100 year anniversary in 2007 with a theme “A Century of Touching Lives.”  The theme reflected the hospital’s tradition of caring and personal patient experience that has become the hospital’s legacy since its founding.  Each year, more than 130,000 patients receive high-quality and innovative patient care from our talented medical staff of some 500 physicians, supported by more than 1,300 employees and nearly 400 volunteers.

Lakewood Hospital's primary service area is western Cuyahoga County, primarily the cities of Lakewood, Rocky River, Bay Village, Westlake, Fairview Park, eastern portion of Lorain County and western portion of the City of Cleveland (Detroit Shoreway area). Lakewood Hospital, accredited by The Joint Commission, provides a full continuum of care from birth to senior services.

Several core services – called Centers of Excellence are:

Neurological Services: The Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute at Lakewood Hospital, which opened in the fall of 2008, offers a full-spectrum of neurological care to inpatients and outpatients. Lakewood Hospital was one of the first hospitals in Ohio to be named a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission for providing outstanding patient care. Additionally, we are one of a few select community hospitals in the nation with a designated Neuro Integrated Care Unit, which offers patients the opportunity to stay in one room through all levels of their neurological care.

Diabetes and Endocrine Center: We are the only hospital on the West side of Cleveland to offer diabetes and endocrine care in one location.  The Diabetes and Endocrine Center employs two endocrinologists, a certified diabetes educator, a dietician, inpatient and outpatient diabetes education nurses and a community outreach coordinator.  Other physicians and clinicians rotate through the center to provide services including podiatry, wound care and mental health.

Digestive Health Center: We offer the most advanced services for diagnosing and treating a broad range of digestive conditions.  We are one of the few centers equipped to handle pancreatic and biliary disorders and are the only facility in Northeast Ohio – and one of only a handful of hospitals in the nation – that has an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) equipment for the evaluation and diagnosis of digestive tract disorders.

Heart Center: We offer a full range of care including diagnostic services, surgical interventions, non-surgical interventions and rehabilitation services. For patients on blood thinning medications our Anticoagulation Clinic provides patients a specialized place to receive one-on-one care. The clinic is designed to help patients manage their medication regimen as safely and accurately as possible.

SeniorCare Services: We address the aging process by helping older adults develop healthy and rewarding lifestyles. We also offer guidance and support to families and caregivers. Our SeniorCare Assessment Center is a cornerstone of our SeniorCare services and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of geriatric health specialists. The Wound Care Clinic, Lifeline, Emergency Response System and Driver Rehabilitation Program are also part of the services provided by SeniorCare.

Orthopaedics: Lakewood Hospital Orthopaedic Services is dedicated to providing high-quality orthopaedic medical and surgical care to our patients. Our orthopaedic staff, which includes orthopaedic surgeons, registered nurses and rehabilitation staff, will be with you throughout your recovery process.

Vein & Vascular Center: Located on our Westlake Medical Campus, the Center provides state-of-the-art treatment for varicose and spider veins, a wide range of cosmetic services and cardiac and vascular diagnostic testing services including Laser Vein Ablation, Sclerotheraphy, and Phlebectomy. Our team includes a board-certified general and vascular surgeon, echo cardiographers and vascular technologists.
