1907 - Lakewood Hospital is founded by Dr. C. Lee Graber.
1908 - The Lakewood Hospital Charitable Association, later called the Woman’s Board, is formed.
1910 - The Lakewood Hospital School of Nursing is established.
1916 - A new 4-story brick building, called “The Detroit Building” is completed.



1931 - The City of Lakewood is granted ownership of the hospital.
1935 - The Junior Board is founded.
1940 - The hospital addition known as the B wing opens.
1941 - The Volunteer Association is formed to address the shortage of doctors and nurses brought about by WWII.
1948 - The Children’s Board is founded.
1951 - Hospital is expanded to include the C and F wings.
1956 - The Lakewood Hospital Foundation is established to encourage and administer gifts, grants, and bequests to the hospital.
1968 - Hospital expanded to include the “Marlowe Wing”, now called the D and E wings.
1971 - The hospital’s B and C wings are renovated, and the fourth floor of the Marlowe Wing is finished.
1985 - Lakewood Hospital expands inward with the enclosure of its inner courtyard.Lakewood Hospital changes status from a public hospital to a non-profit, private governance structure.
1986 - Lakewood Hospital begins its 10-year affiliation with University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
1990 - Lakewood Hospital’s new birthing center opens, restoring obstetrics services to the community for the first time since 1972.
1991 - The Lakewood Hospital Community Health Center opens.
1992 - Construction begins on Lakewood Hospital’s Westlake Medical Campus, with initial services beginning the following year.


Lakewood Hospital expands its primary care services in three new locations in Lakewood and Cleveland.
1997 - Lakewood Hospital becomes part of the Cleveland Clinic health system.
2002 - Lakewood Hospital’s newly expanded and renovated emergency department opens.
2006 - Lakewood Hospital opens its outpatient rehabilitation center in the new Lakewood YMCA and expands its primary health care services to Rockport Square on Lakewood’s east end.
2007 - Lakewood Hospital’s newly renovated Coronary Care Unit opens.
